Medicine Singers
Medicine Singers
This monumental album connects experimental music and traditional powwow in previously unheard ways, acting as a guided tour de force, taking listeners through the many different musical styles with roots (still being discovered) in Native American music. From psychedelic punk to spiritual jazz, from minimalism to electronic music.
"Breathes fire, detonating cultural walls." - The New Yorker
Monotonix
Dissatisfied with the state of the music scene in their hometown of Tel Aviv, Monotonix formed in 2005, frequently setting up on the floor among the crowd, playing shows raucous enough to find themselves banned from most of the venues in their hometown.
The band decided to leave Israel and in a five year span, released 2 LPs and an EP on Drag City and played over 1000 shows in 50 counties.
Proclamation
Mamady Kouyate
Mamady Kouyate learned guitar in his early childhood from his father who was the first musician in Guinea's history to transcribe traditional kora and balafon music for the electric guitar.
Kouyate went on too play in in Guinea’s most famous musical export - Bembeya Jazz, helping to define the Guinea guitar sound.
'Proclamation' is his first solo record.
American Quartet
Yonatan Gat
“Since the first time I heard the American Quartet it sounded like rock’n’roll melodies, so on this record we took a stab at performing the string quartet live from start to finish on electric guitar, bass, organ and drums.
My favorite moments are in the second, slow movement. It was the last thing we recorded together - late night studio magic.”
Chalaba
Maalem Hassan Ben Jaffar
Maalem Hassan Ben Jaffar is a master musician and spiritual elder of the Grammy-nominated group of Moroccan expats Innov Gnawa, who released their debut LP on Daptone Records in 2021.
